Getting Out and About

Having a lot of fun this week for a change. I spent Tuesday back on campus at Berkeley meeting with Don McLeod and the two Jeffs at Earl Warren Hall. Had a great time and it was a bit of deja vu. Jeff, Matt, and I had visited the building when it was brand new a few years ago to discuss co-locating SETI@Home there. Never happened.

Afterwards, Bob and I went to dinner at The Boiler House in Richmond...

Thanks, Uncle Bob! The next one's on me!

The next day, I headed out for Hat Creek Radio Observatory and the Allen Telescope Array

The Show

Last night I gave a talk, in conjunction with the International Year of Astronomy 2009, on the subject of Rural Contributions to Modern Astronomy. It showcased 4 astronomers who had rural origins, Mikhail Lomonosov, Clyde Tombaugh, Gerard Kuiper, and Edwin Hubble.

Werner and his son, Julio, came up to assist.

I'm available for parties and dinners...

Good Times!

Pilot Program

ComputeSpace has a tentative deal to supply astronomy education to 500 home schooled students managed by Del Norte County schools this Fall, based on a successful demonstration of our ability to scale and meet SLAs.

This will be our first customer!

Happy Birthday, Jorjanna!!

From lv_trip_10-19-07

My youngest daughter turns 29 years old today. We have been buddies for a long time now. Seems like only a few years ago, I was teasing my parents that they were officially getting old when I, as their youngest, was turning 30. Guess I'd better make the most of this year since it's my last before I join the club!

Happy Independence Day!

In what may become a new July 4th tradition, the Dude insisted on dragging us down to the lake (Lake Earl) for an early morning dip!

I took a few pictures and here they are:

Later, we attended the annual fireworks show on the beachfront. The Dude stayed home and chilled out.
Happy Independence Day Everybody!
