Star Trek Drive

Just North of us is an interesting area with two fun streets: Movie Lane and Star Trek Drive. We cruised by this morning and took some pictures to try to give a little more of the flavor of this area.

Star Trek Drive

Movie Lane

Along Movie Lane and Railroad Avenue, hidden away is Red's Drive-In Theater. Yes my San Franciscan and Angelino brethren, we still have a Drive-In Movie Theater up here. It is humble. Since it rains up here at night a lot, it isn't always open, but Red's remains an institution here.

Here are a few pics:

I'll be back in San Francisco tomorrow morning and trying out lunchwalking with my new camera. But I'll be back home for the holiday weekend. Be seeing you.

Our Friend Wallace

Well, we just managed to take out a loan to finish up all the work that needs to be done on my mom's house in L.A. It was a long, tedious process and I want to thank my buddy and former neighbor Wallace for all the help.

When the first lender I went to wanted to charge us quite a bit of money, Wallace stepped in and felt that we could do a lot better. He hooked us up and got us a very good rate and terms and hung in there with us for the (seemingly) endless rounds of property inspections until the process was complete.

He really held our hands through the whole trial. Thanks much, buddy.

This may sound like an ad ( and I guess in a way it is) but, seriously, if you're thinking of buying a house or getting a loan or refinancing or any of that stuff I really do recommend that you talk to my friend Wallace. He'll come through for you.

If you want to catch up with him, here's the info:

Lunchwalking Addendum:

Went by Lake Earl this morning. Meet the neighbors...

Lunchwalking with Court

Today is a very different experience from the usual lunchwalk. I'm working from home in Crescent City for a few days so my lunchwalk isn't in San Francisco. Today I walked along Pebble Beach to the North Point and I walked the pier across the Lighthouse.

As always, you're welcome to join the lunchwalk anytime, anyplace.

This year my cousins threw a Mother's Day get-together for the family. Sadly, I was away working in San Francisco, but Jasmyne was there and sent me pictures. Thanks B-Girl!

Even more Jasmyne news:

Daughter Number One guested on the new NPR show Tell Me More today, talking about women in the blogosphere. You know Pops is gonna have the link right here.

It's a pretty good interview, in my opinion.

She talks candidly about the harrassment she's received from publishing her thoughts. To all you people out there hatin' on my kid...this is America. I believe a significant number of Americans have died simply to guarantee Jasmyne has the right to express her thoughts publicly. If you disagree with her get articulate, not homicidal. That's...un-American!
Daughter Jasmyne is producing a new TV series entitled Don't Go.

Here's the link to the website. Check it out for yourself.
There's a new documentary film, Electric Heart, coming out. It's about the late Don Ellis who was a phenomenal composer and musician and had a profound influence on me. He was always very kind to me and encouraging. I miss him dearly. Here's a clip from the film:
